If you are looking for a spiritual oasis in this time of turmoil, check out Heart of the Earth Crystals & Jewelry Shop in Hyde, just outside Clearfield.

When you walk into the shop, immediately you will find a sense of peace from the music and the smell of incense. The décor is colorful but calming in this charming store which features tons of crystals, jewelry and other spiritual items.

Owner Francine Shimchock of Clearfield started her business four years ago at her house. Initially she was selling just online but said she was drawn to this building and opened her shop at 1504 Washington Ave, Clearfield, just across from the Hyde post office about a year ago.

Because she has another job, the store has limited hours but even so, her loyal customer base has “adapted to me”, she said.

Francine also sets up at various events and craft shows including the recent Riverfront Festival in Clearfield.

Because she posted her location on Facebook, “Some people came just to see me!” she said.

In addition to the loyal customer base, Francine said she averages about five new customers a week.

Part of the fun of having the shop is talking with the various people who stop into the store.

“Some people teach me as we share our experiences,” she said.

At times she offers classes and workshops. The next one scheduled is July 10 when attendees can create their own fairy garden with provided items. The cost is $50 and spots are limited.

Another recent fairy garden event for children was very well received, she said.

In the future she hopes to offer courses in yoga and meditation.

Francine explained she liked rocks even in her childhood when she collected “cool looking” ones.

She started using crystals during a “dark time” in her life and that interest “morphed into this” store.

Crystals vibrate about 32,000 times a second and this can be felt by people, if they concentrate, she said.

When looking for a crystal, “the crystal selects YOU. Just like each individual person, each crystal has its own vibration energy pattern. When there is an energetic similarity between you and a crystal, you will feel drawn to it,” it says in literature at the shop.

“Since the crystals work to raise your vibration, you may experience headaches or nausea as the stagnant energy clears and raises your vibration. You may also experience symptoms because the crystal just does not blend well with your energy,” the info states.

For centuries crystals have been used for healing, changing intentions, energy cleansing, decorating and more.

In the modern world, crystals are used for many electronic devices, computers, clocks, inkjet printers, watches, grills, record players, sonar, solar cells, lasers and more due to their various energies.

By changing the temperatures of crystals and putting pressure on them, electricity is created which is used in these devices.

We have crystals in our bodies and our own electric current which is probably why various crystals can seemingly impact our moods, energy levels and even heal.

Different types of crystals are by tradition linked to various purposes. Some help with negativity, anxiety, circulation, creativity provide harmony/balance or are cleansing.

All of this depends on your own beliefs but no one can deny they are beautiful.

Heart of the Earth Crystals & Jewelry is open on Thursday’s from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Fridays from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
