Every area has their odd places to stay that show up on the Airbnb website and Clearfield is no exception.
Curious, after watching an episode of “Ghosts” (UK version) in which they struggled to make their guest house a “five star” location, I checked through the options for travelers in Clearfield County and discovered the following:
Halfmoon Hollow Campground, a tent in Curwensville
This is for those looking for a rugged experience.
This is a “walled tent with two double beds with air mattresses and an additional tent that can be put upon the site. There is a toilet, creek water that is used for grey water, a water filtration system with a Jerry Can.” It has two bedrooms and a half-bath.
The rating is 4.79 with a cost of $97 per night.
Quehanna River Cabin in Frenchville
This cabin is located along the Susquehanna River where you can watch the area wildlife, including elk. The river is perfect for kayaking, fishing or swimming. Nearby, there are hiking and ATV trails. This is perfect for outdoor lovers.
This renovated cabin has three bedrooms and one bathroom designed with “comfortable, cozy modern decor with a rustic touch.”
It has a rating of 4.96 and a Superhost in Victoria Ann who has been hosting for three years. The cost for one night is $189. This is a guest favorite.
Dome in Houtzdale
This unusual “round tiny house” features one bedroom, one bathroom with the above mentioned hot tub, a fire pit, outdoor seating, alfresco dining and a barbeque area.
“Ideal for those seeking peace and nature, with kayaking and fishing right outside your door. Experience tranquility in this one-of-a-kind retreat,” it says on the website.
It has a rating of 4.85 with a cost of $349 for one night.
Tiny Home in Houtzdale or Beautiful A-frame
This is another unique option. I guess this works for those who are looking for something different to do with their partner.
The building is 12 feet x 16 feet with a “floating style queen bed.” The cedar barrel sauna is “100% private.” Next to it is a cold plunge tub for “the ultimate fire and ice experience!!”
The rating is 4.84 and the cost is $200 for one interesting night. Your Superhost is Merv who has been hosting for two years and owns both this and the Dome mentioned above. This is another guest favorite.
Caboose Inn @ Doolitte Station, DuBois
This site offers four different train cars redesigned as guest suites. It includes Choo Choo Blue, Red New York Central, the Little Giant and Presidential Stay, which is an actual former Presidential Suite train car used by President Teddy Roosevelt. It is the biggest of the four and the most expensive at $354 for one night.
These are also guest favorites with ratings of 4.94 for Superhost Erica who has been a host for two years.
The Schoolhouse Loft in Clearfield
This guest favorite has a rating of 4.99. Jill is the Superhost here for four years. The price is $237 for two nights with a two-night minimum.
“Come stay in our 100-year-old Schoolhouse! This space was created in the old stairway and has a cool, spacious yet cozy loft vibe.”
This one bedroom, one bath spot has a fully furnished and equipped kitchen. There are apartments and an antique and artisan’s shop in the building.
This is great for those looking to stay longer in the area. It is often a stop for traveling professionals who are looking for privacy and a quiet place to rest or work.
Room in Clearfield in an historic home
This spot gives old school bed & breakfast vibes, and is most like the guest house I mentioned in my opening.
The rooms are in a classic Victorian mansion located by the West Branch of the Susquehanna.
Reviews of this place praise the friendliness of the hostess, the beauty of the home and the availability of tasty baked goods. It is pet friendly.
Superhost Suzanne, who has been hosting for two years, has made this a guest favorite and a true five-star experience. The cost for one of the two bedrooms, each with a private bath, is $136 for one night.
Whether you’re looking for an overnight stay in a tent, cabin or elegance, or seeking amenities such as a hot tub, cozy spot or a comfortable home-away-from-home, it appears Clearfield County has it all.
