Camping season is just around the corner, and Curwensville Lake is ramping up for their opening weekend April 3-5.

There will be an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, however, it will be a different type of egg hunt.

“We’re going to have eggs filled with candy, some of the eggs might have prizes in them, and then some of the eggs will have little numbers so the kids will get bigger prizes,” Curwensville Lake office manager and activities director Erin Warrick said.

The Easter Bunny will also be at the event, and there will also be crafts for children to enjoy.

The day features free entry to the park and over 3,000 hidden eggs.

Curwensville Lake is located on Route 453 just south of Curwensville.

The lake has plenty of activities and amenities, including over 200 picnic tables and 22 grills, five picnic pavilions and 59 electric RV sites.

In addition there are three rustic cabins, three primitive group tent sites, eight lake view primitive sites, six children’s play structures, sand volleyball courts, a sand beach area, marina camping and a dog park, as well as a designated dog swimming area.

“From research that we’ve done, our reservations to camp here might be the lowest in the state,” park manager Bill Royer said. “It’s $45 dollars a night for an electric site and $35 for a primitive site. A lot of places charge twice that much.”

Activities that can be enjoyed at Curwensville Lake include fishing, sand volleyball, cornhole, disc golf and horseshoe pits.

There will be cornhole tournaments over each of the holiday weekends in the summer.

“We’ve been expanding on the activities that we have every year,” Warrick said. “I’m working on some new ones.

“I think the activities we have here — the hiking, the boating, the fishing, the disc golf, volleyball — there’s so much to do here. Especially on weekends we do have events, and that brings people into the lake.”

For those who love boating, there are no horsepower restrictions on the lake, making it suitable for sailboats as well as fishing boats.

For birders, the lake is home to a family of bald eagles as well as ducks, geese, herons and more.

For hikers, there are trails color-coded from easy, flat paths to more challenging, steeper terrain. For instance, the Lakeside trail offers views of the lake, while the Falcon Crossing trail goes through hilly, wooded and rocky areas.

Lake admission is $5 per day per vehicle. Watercraft admission is $7 per day per vehicle. Season passes, as well as special rates for seniors and veterans rates are available.

The lake is at 1256 Lake Drive, Curwensville.

In addition to the Easter celebration, other planned events this year include free cleanup camping weekend, April 17-19; welcome back weekend, scavenger hunt, April 24-26; Mother’s Day weekend, craft show, fireworks demo and kids activities, May 8-10; Memorial Day weekend, car show, cornhole tournament, May 22-25; vendor and flea market, June 6; Father’s Day weekend, June 19-21; Fourth of July celebration, cornhole tournament, kids craft activities, July 3-5; Paws at the Park, Aug. 8; Labor Day weekend live music, activities and fireworks, Sept. 5-7; Whisper in the Woods, arts and crafts fair, Sept. 20; fall festival, hayrides, vendors, trunk or treat and more, Oct. 17.
